Forth and Back

The time is now.

God, I miss The West Wing. It was the first thing I queued up on Netflix (the astute few will remember we just joined up).  There isn’t anything I can say about the show that hasn’t been said a thousand times over.  It is from moment one well-acted, well-written, and it talks down to you.  It assumes you’re smart and if you’re not it doesn’t leave you behind.  I don’t know why I didn’t watch this show from the beginning.  I loved The American President and it is essentially a tv show version…  I should stop talking about it.

The real subject: I don’t have one, I started to blog and thought… my mind is pretty blank.  I joined up on Twitter as well but there isn’t much to say about that.  I’d like to use it and think it was as awesome as the kids out in San Francisco.  But they are all the movers and geeks of the tech world and I’m just an English teacher in Wisconsin.  There aren’t a lot of people around Milwaukee rolling on Twitter.

Read this if you want something interesting.

Smart People

So we went and saw a movie mit freunden.  I caught flak for being on my phone and the laptop a bit too much post movie but meh.  What are you going to do.

The movie we caught was Smart People with Dennis Quaid, Thomas Haden Church and Ellen Page… Oh and that girl from the forthcoming Sex and the City movie.  Side note: Roy from television’s The Office had a few scenes, so good for him.

As for the movie review.  It was good but uncomfortable.  But I think that was the point.  I didn’t always buy the romance between Sarah Jessica Parker and Dennis Quaid though.  The movie was short too so I think they could have taken five minutes to build a bit more sexual tension between the two.  Ellen Page was unfortunately cast as Juno though.  I found her funny and endearing even if not always believable.  Back and I were wondering what it was going to take though to get her out of this type.

I’m not saying she needs to play an idiot but [Its 12:34 -1 2 3 4] it may require her to get a role that pushes her limits.  But she’s young, maybe it will happen.

All of that being said, Thomas Haden Church made the movie.  His witty yet goofy role made the show a comedy.  Without him it may have been a drab romance where the predictable happened and little more. His lines (not that he wrote them) were often perfect for the situation and his, dare I say, Back and Forth with Ellen Page also secured his role in the movie.

In other news we signed up on Twitter.  Well I did.  We’ll see where that goes.  The badge doesn’t work on WordPress though so I’m miffed about that. Perhaps we should be on Blogger or something.

We also signed up with Netflix finally.  Our first two DVDs came today: Ordinary People and disc one of The West Wing.  Looking forward to watching those on top of the movies we borrowed from compatriots in the field tonight.  Tony gave us The Graduate and There Will Be Blood.  Opinions on all will be Forth-coming (copyrighted).
