The Core of Life is New Socks

So I disagree with Back.  The women in the Graduate were not that attractive.  I know tan lines go in and out but my lord Ann Bancroft looked like leather with the tan lines only making it worse.

We watched Into the Wild tonight, per Back’s wish.  The soundtrack is pretty good.  Pearl Jam’s guy I think.  I could look it up but I’m not going to make it.  I am not sure about the whole show though.  One thing I liked was that it took its time to develop the story line.  Yes it was 2.5 hours nearly but I didn’t feel like I did at Smart People.  In that movie the relationships weren’t fully developed.  In this one the people he met were fleshed out and the actions they took were real seeming.

Back has Juno going in the background as I type this so I should probably stop detracting from Ellen Page’s latest.

As for the rest of Into the Wild… I doubt very much I can say much about it that hasn’t already been said.  I instantly recognized Slab City from a Shooter Jennings video from three years ago.  The real question is did Shooter Jennings make any more videos?  Probably, but I wasn’t watching.

Back will have more to say on the subject of Into the Wild I’m sure.

First high school lacrosse game is tomorrow.  Our real first one was rained out last week.  My Civic is jam packed full of the equipment it takes to play a home game.  Two goals, one game clock, one extra goalie stick, two extra defense stick, four cans of paint, five mouth pieces, twenty-five jerseys, one fold down table, one fold down chair, fifteen ice packs, and some other stuff.  How do I get myself into this stuff?

Hello Darkness

Sort of unlike Forth, I considered The Graduate entirely regarding the time period it was made in. For the ’60’s, it had some really great camera angles and the lighting and set choices were always pretty fantastic. Dustin Hoffman is terrifically uncomfortable, though we all can see that he has honed his skills since then. I also had to note that for the ’60’s, the chicks in the movie were pretty hot. Ben’s mom wasn’t bad, Mrs. Robinson had a nice body, and Elaine was like a brunette Jessica Simpson.

I really liked Mrs. Robinson at first–confident, commanding, and made of sex. I was rather fond of the fast-paced beginning. She has known Ben his whole life, so clearly these feelings were not immediate, but developing, and we come in when they hit their peak. Literally. When Elaine came home, it just got a little weird though, and I couldn’t entirely find an excuse for those two to be in love so quickly–Forth and I had guessed a Romeo and Juliet type of scenario or something. The sound score was aesthetically pleasing and a lovely change, but I think they could have come up with more than 3 songs to use repeatedly.

But, I being Back, have to point out two of my favorite moments that accentuate my generation–that is when Dustin Hoffman is in the pool with the same music that Frank falls into the pool with in Old School, and also the wedding scene that Wayne’s World ripped off.

I shall end with two great appreciations: Ben for having the same feelings I will upon graduating college. No, I will not go to graduate school, and yes, I would love to float around in the sun all day, eventually getting married. And an appreciation for perhaps the best thing about the movie: MR. FEENEY!!!

That said, Forth and I are signing the lease on our new apartment tonight–a huge traumatizing move about two blocks down the street. However, I hope that we will have time to watch Into the Wild. We don’t aim to turn this into a movie-review site, but hey, Netflix is still new to us and we are rather cinematically inclined anyways. If we don’t watch Into the Wild tonight, I can promise you all a nice, angsty list of the reasons I am glad to move out of our current apartment.
