There is a word that you are unfamiliar with. Meme. Maybe two- Internet Meme. Essentially it is a “concept that spreads” quickly through the Internet. We’ll be playing with one today. I heard a meme recently on The Totally Rad Show that I thought would be fun to throw out on here. In a related story, I’ll be linking a site which you’ll need to go to and report back your score in order to receive the full points possible for today’s event.
The meme – You are in a mall when Zombies attack. You have:
1. One Weapon
2. One Song Blasting in the Speakers
3. One Famous Person to Fight Alongside You
Forth’s Choices – Katana (probably too obvious), Sleep Now in the Fire by Rage Against the Machine, Ben from Lost – He always has a plan.
Now… here’s the problem – does a character count? Most of the small handful I’ve seen picked characters but if you have a problem with that I’d just pick: The guys from The Totally Rad Show because they told me to.
So pick your three and then go to this site: How Many Five Year Olds Could You Take in a Fight? and report back. Your life just might depend on it. For the record, if my life depended on it: 22.

Soooooo, I watch The Totally Rad Show with Alex Albrecht, Jeff Cannata, and Dan Trachtenberg. Every show they start by recreating a scene from a movie. Frequently I am clueless. For instance when Alex threw his arm around Jeff and says “I have one word for you. Are you listening? Plastics. Think about it.” I drew an absolute blank. Now though I can confidently assign that opener to The Graduate. So if for no other reason than that, I am pleased.
Now as for the actual 1967 movie. I have to put my 2008 Forth in a side drawer to review because there are some production things that I found annoying. Unfortunately, there is no 1967 Forth to help you out. I frequently thought the editing was not so much bad as it was distracting. I felt camera angle changes and at times the disrupted flow between scenes was palpable.
Along the same lines in today’s cinema it is not uncommon to see a movie such as this break the two hour mark but this one comes in at 1.46 or some such. I care only because Mrs. Robinson jumped him too quickly. This was my same complaint with Smart People though. There could have been two or three minutes more of generating something believable between the two.
Further, we’ve all seen Dustin Hoffman give his award winning performances since The Graduate. This lets me look at the movie with 20/20 hindsight and think, I’ve seen him do better. Some of his lines were delivered in a rather stilted fashion that made me sense that he was delivering lines. Also the scene in which Mr. Robinson confronts Ben (Hoffman) in his Berkley apartment, Mr. Robinson’s exit is…. not good we’ll say.
All in all it was entertaining and if I remove myself from 2008 I am able to appreciate it.
I’d have more to say but I really posted to make sure Back had a chance to post because when I asked her what she thought of the movie, she told me to wait for her blog post.
